JUVÉDERM® XC is an effective & safe non-surgical treatment used to smooth your skin and return your facial contours to their naturally youthful & healthy state. The active ingredient is hyaluronic acid (HA) which is actually a naturally-occurring sugar found in your body. It stimulates collagen production in your skin and retains water, instantly restoring unwanted lines, enhancing lips, cheeks and jaw-line as well as other areas.
Benefits include added volume and definition of facial features while maintaining a natural, symmetrical and enhanced appearance. You can restore fullness in your cheeks or chin, improve lips, jaw-line and plump up smile lines. Depending on your goal, JUVÉDERM® XC can be used for many different purposes.
HOW DOES JUVÉDERM® XC WORK?
JUVÉDERM® XC is applied with a fine needle just under the skin. Beforehand, the doctor may use an anesthesia to numb the area, however, it is not necessary since the treatment is not painful and will only cause minor discomfort. Afterwards, the areas of injection may be massaged gently.
The whole process will only take 15 minutes to an hour, depending on the area which is being treated. There is also minimal recovery time so you can return to you regular activities the same day.
For your first visit be prepared to answer your doctors questions about your medical history, including any medication you may be taking or allergies you may have. Your doctor will examine your skin and measure the depth of your wrinkles or folds to better discuss the level of treatment that is appropriate for you individually.
ARE THERE SIDE EFFECTS?
A week before your procedure, it is recommended that you avoid taking aspirin and other anti-inflammatory drugs which thin the blood. This will reduce the risk of bruising at the injection site.
It is suggested that you avoid strenuous physical activities or excessive sun and heat exposure as well as the consumption of alcohol, at least for the first 24 hours. Also, be careful about application of make-up. This will help reduce the chance of some possible side-effects like redness, itching, swelling or bumps. These reactions are usually mild to moderate and resolve within 7 days or less. Applying an ice pack for a brief period of time may be helpful if you notice some of these reactions.
